The plot is representative of the mixed oak hardwood forest with a dead hemlock subcanopy. The hemlocks occur in large patches but not consistently throughout. There are patches of monoculture Dennstaedtia punctilobula in this stand which are not captur

Leaf litter is the only source of fuel. There is a dead subcanopy of hemlocks, but insufficient ladder fuels to get a fire from the ground to the subcanopy or canopy. Also insufficient heath for a special fuel model designation.
